Three gang members are headed back to prison and 19 others are facing federal charges in a large-scale conspiracy that victimized 200 people and businesses in Polk County. On June 23, 2022, deputies with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office were responding to a call for service at a Chevron gas station. They were searching for Tyler Jacob, who they said tried to run away but was quickly apprehended. Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said Jacob is a convicted felon and a member of the ‘Trap Boys’ gang. When he was apprehended, Judd said deputies found a handgun, ammunition, numerous fraudulent checks, checks that had been returned as altered, personal information on other people that was written in a notebook, 27 other debit cards in other people’s names, a computer and a cell phone. "So, that just tells me he's just looking to destroy something for fun." Frantz said his staff walked in to find one of their umbrellas broken and a table damaged. The Tampa Bay Rays say plans to build its new ballpark have been halted because Pinellas County didn’t finalize bonds last month. In a letter to county commissioners, the Major League Baseball team said it has suspended plans to build a new stadium and revitalize the Gas Plant District. The Rays said they put in decades of work and spent more than $50M to "bring this historic project to reality – a project that had been approved by the City of St. Petersburg and Pinellas County. Now, that enormous investment of human and financial capital has been jeopardized by the county’s failure to live up to its July agreement." FOX 13 News Meteorologist Valerie Mills says the remnants of Tropical Storm Sara are now moving through the Gulf of Mexico, bringing a round of rain to Florida late Tuesday through Wednesday. Parts of the panhandle will get the heaviest rain and the Tampa Bay Area will only get an inch or two of rain, according to Mills. There are no tropical formations expected within the next seven days. Mills says Sara may be the last named storm of hurricane season. A woman is accused of trying to scam a hurricane assistance program. The Bradenton Police Department arrested Veronica Torres, 44, on Friday, and she’s facing a charge of filing a false public assistance claim. Police say they got a report of public assistance fraud last week. St. Pete Mayor Ken Welch is pushing back on the belief that the deal between the city, the county, and the Rays to build a new stadium is in trouble following Hurricane Milton.
